One piece and two-piece suit
The women's swimming swimwear are present on the market in three main types: two-piece swimwear, one-piece swimming swimwear and modeling one-piece swimwear.
two-piece swimming swimwear are usually used for outdoor training; there are several models that differ in the shape of the top and the bottom, in order to satisfy the preferences and physicality of the athletes.
The one piece swimsuit provide more support than two piece swimwear; they are used by competitive athletes or by people who practice free swimming.
The modeling one-piece swimsuit are usually used by those who practice aqua aerobics or water fitness activities; they are equipped with modeling bands placed on the waistline, adjustable straps and integrated padding on the breast, which ensure maximum support. The fabric of these swimwear is made of large percentages of lycra, which makes them extremely elastic, comfortable and breathable.
What fabrics are the swimming swimwear made of
The swimwear fabrics are made of a mix of polyester and lycra in varying percentages.
lycra , or more commonly nylon, is an elastic, light fabric, adheres very well to body shapes, but has reduced wear resistance.
polyester has a more snug fit and offers greater compression, better support and longer durability.
The most chlorine-resistant swimwear in absolute are those in PBT (100% polyester) and are generally used by agonists.
The choice of the fabric of the swimming swimwear therefore depends on the frequency and use of it.
As for the choice of the swimwear based on the fabrics of the different brands, all the manufacturers offer a wide range of products that differ according to the percentages of polyester and lycra.
swimwear with single or double layer of fabric
The presence of the double layer of fabric in swimming swimwear depends above all on the color and patterns on the swimwear and on the choices of the individual manufacturers.
TYR or FUNKITA almost exclusively produce swimwear with a double lining. ARENA, SPEEDO AND JAKED produce swimwear both with single and double lining: the double layer of fabric is usually positioned in light-colored swimwear or with patterns, to avoid that when wet they become transparent. (two swimwear of the same model in different colors have two different linings; for example ARENA Swim Tech Solid in plum coloring has a single layer of fabric, while in leaf coloring it has a double layer).
The choice of swimwear with single or double lining depends on the preferences of the individual athletes:
- swimwear with a single layer of fabric are lighter, but offer little compression;
- swimwear with a double layer of fabric are significantly heavier, but offer greater compression and better body support.
Cut of the swimwear
On the market there are many models of swimming trunks that differ in the cut of the shoulder straps, the back and the legs.
It is, in fact, of fundamental importance to choose the swimwear cut that best suits the athlete's physique, to always train comfortably.
- Straps: the swimwear with wide straps provide maximum support and are therefore recommended for athletes with a prosperous breast; however, in the long run, wide straps can create tension on the neck and, if seams are present, can lead to irritation and injury to the skin. The swimwear with narrow shoulder straps provide maximum freedom and amplitude of movements, but less support; the right compromise is that of the swimwear with mixed straps, which give good support without sacrificing agility in movement.
- Back: the different swimwear models also differ in the different openings on the back. The free backs models, thanks to a wide opening on the back, give maximum freedom of movement, reduced friction and better sliding; the control backs models ensure effective breast support and a comfortable fit.
- Sgambatura: there are three types of sgambatura: high, medium or low.
What to consider when you want to buy a swimwear
When you want to buy a swimwear, remember to check that it meets these requirements: they may seem trivial, but they will allow you to train much more easily!
Comfort: the swimming swimwear must, in fact, allow maximum freedom of movement both in the shoulder and back area and in the chest and abdomen. If your skin is particularly sensitive, make sure that the swimsuit does not have side seams and along the shoulder straps: due to repeated movements during training, rubbing the seams on the skin could lead to irritation and injury.
Fit: the swimming swimwear must fit perfectly, to prevent water from flowing between the skin and the swimwear; the swimwear, in fact, during training must become like a second skin, must be comfortable and must minimize water friction.
Duration: the duration of a swimming swimwear depends on three factors: fabric, frequency of use and the way in which it is treated. It is precisely for this reason that it is essential to choose the right swimwear according to your needs: if you train two / three times a week you can opt for a lycra swimwear, much more comfortable and of medium duration, while if you are a swimming bitch and you train very often we advise you to buy the PBT swimwear, the strongest and most durable on the market.
How a swimwear should fit
As we said earlier, a swimming swimwear must become like a second skin, it must be comfortable and fit perfectly.
When you have to buy a swimwear, we advise you to take it quite snug: the sensation of constriction, in fact, will change as soon as you enter the water, and remember: the swimwear will not tighten with time, but will loosen with wear, so don't buy it off the top!
How to understand if the swimwear is too large
The swimming swimwear must not be of a larger size than that which suits our body; a larger swimsuit absorbs, in fact, more water than that which is absorbed by a swimsuit that fits perfectly, and this would constitute a source of friction during training.
To understand if the swimwear you have chosen is too large, check that:
Do not create wrinkles along the fabric, do not create a buttonhole when you put yourself in a sliding position, the edge of the open part of the back does not rise from the skin, the straps are not too wide.
Care and maintenance
Care and maintenance are essential to ensure that your swimming swimwear lasts as long as possible; we list some precautions to follow:
- rinse your swimsuit under cold water just removed: in the journey to get home the chlorine could, in fact, damage the fibers of the fabric;
- wrap it in a towel avoiding plastic bags (they are the perfect environment for the growth of bacteria and micro-organisms);
- never wash it in the washing machine and do not use the dryer: they would result in a loss of elasticity;
- use only soaps for delicate clothes;
- let it dry away from sources of heat and do not use the iron: high temperatures could disintegrate the fibers of the fabrics;
- never let it dry in direct sunlight: the colors may fade;
- try not to dirty your swimsuit with vaseline and sunscreen when you apply them to your skin: the swimsuit may become discolored .;
- tries to alternate different swimwear to avoid losing elasticity: the fibers of the fabric take a few hours before returning to their original shape.
